Campus Experience Programming: Spring

 

We invite you to preview the UCLA Anderson experience by participating in our MBA Campus Experience program during Spring Quarter -- programming begins the first week of April and will end the first week of June. We strongly recommend you sign up if you are able, as this will be your last opportunity until Fall Quarter begins in October (this is especially important for those considering applying Round 1 of our next application cycle!)

Our Campus Experience offerings may include General Information Session (GIS) presentations, school tours, class visits, coffee chats, and lunches. These events are great ways to learn more about the MBA program, our culture and individual experiences through the recruiting process and club involvement.

• General Information Session (GIS) Presentation
  Learn about what sets us apart as a leading MBA program, pick up tips on how to successfully navigate the admissions process and get answers to your questions. Sessions are held generally on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:00 PM and are hosted by a second-year student ambassador or an admissions officer.
  
  
• School Tour
  Stroll through our beautiful campus and surrounding grounds with a student ambassador tour guide to see how our students make the most of our world class facilities. Tours are offered generally on Mondays and Wednesdays during the academic year at 4:00 PM.
  
  
• Class Visit
  Join our students in an actual full-time MBA class and experience the collaborative environment among our students and faculty. Classes are generally held Monday through Thursday during the academic year.
  
  
• Coffee and Lunch Chats
  Learn first-hand from a current student all about our culture and opportunities at UCLA Anderson. Grab your own favorite beverage or food and join the conversation. Student coffee and lunch chats are offered at varying times Monday through Thursday.

If you can’t join us in person on-campus, you can still connect with us online at an General Information Session Webinar hosted by a student ambassador or admissions officer on most Thursdays from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM and/or watch one our featured students on a Liveguide webinar session (check out the archives!) as they share highlights of their personal MBA journeys.

UCLA Anderson Application Insider: Round 2 Deadline Tomorrow!

APPLICATION INSIDER TOPIC:

ROUND 2 DEADLINE

 

It's hard to believe that 2018 is already here and that our Round 2 deadline is only a day away -- January 5, 2018 at midnight (Los Angeles time)! For us on the Admissions Committee, we're gearing up for the busiest time of the admissions cycle, as this is typically the round in which we receive the greatest number of applications.  We will definitely keep everyone in the loop with any admissions updates on this blog and on our social media accounts (Instagram and Twitter), so keep checking in!

Not sure if you should apply in Round 2 or wait? For those who are not ready to submit by the Round 2 deadline, our Round 3 deadline is April 12, 2018 so you have a few more months to work on your application. Here's some more information about the pros and cons of applying in each round. 

If you are able to visit us on campus, we highly encourage joining us for a Campus Experience program that includes class visits, campus tours, and more.  Our programming for Winter quarter will begin on Tuesday, January 9th and registration is now open -- click here to learn more and RSVP (spots are limited!).  Additional campus experience spots will be added over the next few weeks so keep checking back.

Now that our students are back from their summer internships and well-earned breaks, the campus is back to its usual level of energy and excitement. We invite you to preview the MBA experience by participating in our MBA Campus Experience program. I encourage you to attend and connect with us this summer at the Forté Forums! These free pre-MBA events are hosted by the Forté Foundation and are designed for women considering an MBA. Whether you're applying this year or a few years from now, you'll have the chance to meet top business schools, hear from MBA alumnae in each city and get valuable application tips during the panels.

LEARN MORE ABOUT TAYLOR: 

I am an incoming first year full-time MBA student at UCLA Anderson (Class of 2019!). I am originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and graduated from Duke University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I've spent the past five years working in the financial services industry in New York City -- most recently on the Institutional Team at SPDR Exchange Traded Funds. My role included sales, project management, and data analysis responsibilities, and I found that I am most excited by projects that require the use of data and analytics to develop business strategy, and better understand and serve our Institutional clients. I am thrilled to begin my UCLA Anderson journey and leverage my experience and MBA education to transition to a role in management consulting -- an ideal fit for me due to the focus on data to drive strategic decisions and solve complex business problems!

Admit Preview Day: Highlights from the Alumni Panel

Our admitted students from Round 1 are invited each year to attend Admit Preview Day (APD) here on the UCLA Anderson campus. This past weekend, admits traveled from across the U.S. (and some even from other countries!) to meet future classmates and learn more about the UCLA Anderson experience. Some pre-APD activities included attending the 2017 Anderson Women's Leadership Summit, industry coffee chats with students, and 1-on-1 advising sessions with the Parker Career Management Center. Official programming kicked off early Saturday that allowed admits an inside look into student clubs on campus, faculty spotlights and career panels featuring current students and alums.

We are particularly thankful to our alums who came to share their advice and success stories to the Class of 2019 during the APD Anderson Alumni Panel. Whether you were unable to attend the event, want a refresher on what you learned, or just want to get to know our Anderson community, read the below to learn about some of our amazing alumni! 

	Gabe Chua ('07) Current Role: Marketing Director, Marketing Strategy & Development, Nestlé Pre-MBA: Adobe Undergrad: Carnegie Mellon University "I've been out of Anderson for about 10 years. I've been fortunate to build my career at Nestlé. If you look at a lot of Anderson people and the companies they're in, you'll see that they're in leadership positions. You can network with these folks while you're in school, and it's a meaningful network that will last throughout your career. Whether it be to exchange ideas, look for future positions, they're pretty influential people who can make a difference."
	Nathan True-Daniels ('12) Current Role: Vice President, Barclays Investment Bank Pre-MBA: UBS Financial Services Undergrad: Vanderbilt University "The most important thing for business school is to constantly challenge yourself to not just skate by. There are so many incredible classes here to take, so many great people to meet and so many great things beginning. I have classmates who started a solar company with robots that would clean the dust off of solar panels, Greenbotics. They ended up being acquired a year after graduation. The people, the opportunity, the fact that you're in the middle of Los Angeles just yields so many opportunities for you to challenge yourself and grow."
	Suzy Crawford ('15) Current Role: Senior Account Manager, Media & Entertainment, Google Pre-MBA: Double Positive Marketing Group Undergrad: University of Arizona "I looked at the companies that recruited at Anderson for digital marketing and for tech. I reached out to alums at Google and other companies to understand how their MBAs helped them to get their role. That's when I knew that Anderson was definitely the place that would help me get to my next career. I also didn't just take marketing classes. Taking finance classes was huge. It allows me to go into my job now and give a really different strategic point of view."
	Shannon Kung ('15) Current Role: Franchise Operations Manager, Disney Pre-MBA: Lieberman Research Worldwide Undergrad: UCLA "If anyone is interested in the entertainment industry, you wouldn't go anywhere else. Entertainment is that one industry where networking is the most important thing. It's cool if you're an Excel ninja and can talk about vlookups all day but if you can't network and get buy-in, you're not going to succeed. It's a lot easier to be in Los Angeles and go talk to the people who work at the studios and also come to speak at our classes."
	Jonathan Murphy ('16) Current Role: Consultant, Boston Consulting Group Pre-MBA: AlphaSights and US Army Undergrad: University of Notre Dame "I don't think people realize how influential and how much buy-in you get from second year students really prepping you for interviews for your internships or helping you make connections at companies where they had interned. Then, you get young alumni, people like myself, who are on the Anderson recruiting team at BCG. I think there is a HUGE amount of investment that we put into going back to our school, and that stems back to the amount of investment that the people ahead of us put into us."

Velocity 2017: Women's Leadership Summit @ Anderson

 

The 2017 UCLA Anderson Women’s Leadership Summit welcomed 400+ attendees to campus on Friday, February 3, 2017. This day-long discussion brought together dynamic business leaders, alumni, faculty and students. In the spirit of the 2017 theme, “Empower Together”, women and men were encouraged to be part of this energizing, thought-provoking and inspiring event that delved into unconscious bias, inclusion and other key topics.

Dean Judy Olian and our Women's Business Connection club president, Christine Duffy ('17), welcomed everyone in the morning. We were thrilled to have Amy Powell ('05), Anderson alumna and President of Paramount Television and Digital Entertainment as our morning keynote speaker. She shared her secrets to success and the high value her family has always placed on continued education and personal growth.

Back by popular demand from the 2016 Velocity Conference, Cynthia "Cynt" Marshall, SVP of Human Resources and Chief Diversity Officer at AT&T, graced our stage for the afternoon keynote session. From being the first African American cheerleader at Cal to a young engineer at AT&T to her role today, Cynt continues to inspire us with her message of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
