Campus Experience Programming: Spring

 

We invite you to preview the UCLA Anderson experience by participating in our MBA Campus Experience program during Spring Quarter -- programming begins the first week of April and will end the first week of June. We strongly recommend you sign up if you are able, as this will be your last opportunity until Fall Quarter begins in October (this is especially important for those considering applying Round 1 of our next application cycle!)

Our Campus Experience offerings may include General Information Session (GIS) presentations, school tours, class visits, coffee chats, and lunches. These events are great ways to learn more about the MBA program, our culture and individual experiences through the recruiting process and club involvement.

• General Information Session (GIS) Presentation
  Learn about what sets us apart as a leading MBA program, pick up tips on how to successfully navigate the admissions process and get answers to your questions. Sessions are held generally on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:00 PM and are hosted by a second-year student ambassador or an admissions officer.
  
  
• School Tour
  Stroll through our beautiful campus and surrounding grounds with a student ambassador tour guide to see how our students make the most of our world class facilities. Tours are offered generally on Mondays and Wednesdays during the academic year at 4:00 PM.
  
  
• Class Visit
  Join our students in an actual full-time MBA class and experience the collaborative environment among our students and faculty. Classes are generally held Monday through Thursday during the academic year.
  
  
• Coffee and Lunch Chats
  Learn first-hand from a current student all about our culture and opportunities at UCLA Anderson. Grab your own favorite beverage or food and join the conversation. Student coffee and lunch chats are offered at varying times Monday through Thursday.

If you can’t join us in person on-campus, you can still connect with us online at an General Information Session Webinar hosted by a student ambassador or admissions officer on most Thursdays from 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM and/or watch one our featured students on a Liveguide webinar session (check out the archives!) as they share highlights of their personal MBA journeys.

From The Dean's Desk: Round 2 Decisions Released Today

This post is part of our “From the Dean’s Desk” series, where we hear directly from our UCLA Anderson leaders across the school.

The remaining decisions to our full-time MBA Round 2 applicants were released just after midnight today. All of our Admissions Officers really enjoyed calling and speaking with each admit to welcome them to join the UCLA Anderson Class of 2020!

All Round 2 applicants received an email to check their Status Page for their decision letter.  If you applied but did not see the notification email, please check your spam folder, or just go directly to your Status Page to view your admissions decision. Any Round 1 applicants who were placed on the waitlist also received an email with an update on their application status. 

We are already receiving Round 3 applications  -- the last round of this application season -- so we look forward to seeing many more excellent candidates by the Round 3 submission deadline of April 12, 2018.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our application for Round 2, good luck to those working on applications for Round 3, and congratulations to all of our new admits!

Student Perspectives: A Reflection on Fall and Winter Quarter

I can’t say enough good things about how the Fall and Winter Quarter went – I definitely think I won the lottery with the classes I took and professors that taught them. Having majored in business, I was familiar with the topics we were covering in our core courses, but to say that I learned more in 10 weeks in one quarter here at Anderson than I did in a whole semester in undergrad would be an understatement.

In Data & Decisions, I learned several key statistical analysis techniques that will be immensely beneficial for my summer internship and post-MBA career. Data is becoming an integral part of every organization and being able to synthesis and draw clear conclusions is a skill that will be essential at every level within organizations in the not so distant future. I plan to take an elective that will build on these concepts and equip me with even more tactics on how to deliver key insights from data.

I also took Managerial Economics this Fall quarter, and I don’t think I ever really realized how important economic principles are in the foundations of so many other schools of thought. Not only was this class challenging and extremely interesting, it also taught me how to address business problems from an economics perspective. My final core class in the Fall Quarter was Marketing Management. UCLA Anderson offers a truly unique opportunity because depending on what your target industry is, you have the option to take either Marketing or Finance and prepare yourself for the industry you are recruiting for. Marketing Management was far and away my favorite class from the Fall Quarter. I learned so much more than simply what makes a marketing campaign successful; we took a deep dive into understanding how a company’s overall strategy needs to be in line with how and what it is marketing as well as who the company is targeting.

It is very apparent that UCLA Anderson has spent many painstaking hours curating the core curriculum and scheduling them in such a way that every subsequent class builds on what we have learned before. One of the best aspects of the core classes at Anderson is my Learning Team. Learning Teams are a group of five students that have been hand selected and completes all the group projects in the core classes together. All the members on my learning team have very different backgrounds which makes for a great learning environment. Read more about Learning Teams in a blog post recently written by my classmate. 

I feel like I speak for all of us in the Class of 2019 when I say that the core classes here at UCLA Anderson have been nothing short of fantastic and we look forward to Spring Quarter!

Student Perspectives: Q&A on Professional Clubs at Anderson

Q. What is a Professional Club?

A. A professional club allows Anderson students to gain crucial insights into specific industries and/or functions. UCLA Anderson offers membership to many different types of clubs, including professional clubs, identity clubs, interest clubs and even athletic clubs! Most Anderson students join multiple clubs to not only aid in their career search but also have fun with fellow classmates. While I have leveraged my membership in the Marketing Association and AnderTech to explore different career options, my wife and I have also been active members of the Anderson Wine Club – a social club that offer trips to Sonoma and Santa Barbara, as well as monthly wine tastings.

Q. What has been the most important Professional Club during your time at Anderson?

A. The Marketing Association has helped me tremendously, as I am making a career pivot from being in the military to marketing. Club events --  such as company sponsored case studies, workshops in ecommerce and advertising -- have helped club members broaden their skill sets. Since Anderson is a very much a student-run school, I’ve had ample opportunity to join the Marketing Association leadership and plan events. For example, in early January I helped plan a 3-day event to visit several marketing companies in the Bay Area during a DOJ (Days on the Job). A group from the Marketing Association spent the day at three different top CPG companies: The Clorox Company, The J.M. Smucker Company, and E. & J. Gallo Winery (pictured below).

Q. What are other type of events Professional Clubs offer?

A. Professional Clubs not only offer relevant industry workshops and company visits, but also many ways to interact with Anderson alumni. Events such as D48s (Dinners For Eights) allow Anderson students to share dinner with recent alumni. This past week the Marketing Association hosted a Winter Company Panel and Reception. The best part of being in Los Angeles is that we can attract alumni from great companies. After class on Tuesday, Anderson students were able to interact with local marketing professionals from companies like Sugarfina, Quest Nutrition, and Popchips and hear about their roles and experiences in the marketing industry.
